Canadian lookups run on different law and different infrastructure than US lookups — here's what actually changes.

Different regulator, different rules

Canadian telecom privacy is governed by PIPEDA (the federal privacy law) and enforced by the CRTC rather than the FCC. As in the US, there's no public directory of Canadian mobile numbers — carriers aren't required to publish subscriber data, and most Canadians never opt in to a public listing.

The National Do Not Call List

Canada's CRTC operates the National DNCL. If you're getting repeated unwanted calls to a Canadian number, registering on the DNCL and filing a complaint with the CRTC is the direct path — more effective than any reverse lookup for stopping the calls, even if a lookup helps you identify who's calling first.

Common Canadian area codes

416/647/437 (Toronto), 604/778 (Vancouver), 514/438 (Montreal), 613/343 (Ottawa), 403/587 (Calgary), 902 (Nova Scotia/PEI). Canadian numbers use the same 10-digit North American Numbering Plan format as the US, which is why a single lookup tool can usually handle both.

Coverage is thinner than in the US

Fewer public-records aggregators operate in Canada due to PIPEDA's stricter consent requirements around data collection and resale. Expect free carrier and spam-report lookups to work about as well as in the US, but paid name/address reports to have noticeably less coverage for Canadian numbers.
